General English
General Aim
The Aim of the General English course is to prepare students to improve their current English abilities in all four key language skills; reading, writing, speaking and listening. There will be six levels offered in the General English program: Elementary 1, Elementary 2, Pre-Intermediate 1, Pre-Intermediate 2, Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2. The length of each course will be 6 weeks.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequistes for General English. The Student's English language level is assessed via a written and oral assessment,then they are placed in a class which corresponds to their language abilities.
This course is not available on a part time basis to student visa holders.
Course Contents
The General English course deals with subject matter which not only reflects the educational aims of the course but also contemporary society.
The main areas covered are:
In addition to textbook resources available,teachers will also be encouraged to use role-plays, board games, card games and discussion activities in order to provide students with a rich language experience.
Learning Materials
The General English Course uses a wide variety of materials. The textbooks will be used in conjunction with supplementary materials such as radio programmes, television documentaries and films, internet resources and a current selection of the wide variety of English teaching resources available to the public.
Assessment Methods
Students will be assessed on a regular basis. In addition to informal weekly tests, students studying the General English Course will be given a formal review after the first 3 weeks. In addition, the students will be tested at the end of the 6 week course in the form of a Level Test which has listening, written and spoken components.

NB:Some non-study activities are scheduled into General English and Electives. Total programme time for full-time students is 25 hours per week, including 22.75 hours of formal study. A further 7½ hours per week of independent study in the SRC are optional and free of charge. Part-time students have 16.75 hours of formal study. Part-time studies are not available to those in Australia with student visas.

- Current events and future goals and aspirations.
