IELTS Preparation Courses
The general aim of these courses is to prepare students to sit and pass either the FCE or IELTS examinations on completion of their course. It is designed to enable students to handle the main structures of the language with confidence, demonstrate a knowledge of a wide range of vocabulary and use communicative strategies in a variety of social situations.
Candidates may choose to do this course for a number of different reasons. These vary from writing to improve their employment prospects, gain entry into another course, simply for the educational benefit of this intensive study of the English language, or to enhance their stay in Australia.
Prerequisites World English recommends students to have an Intermediate level of English before starting these courses. We advise candidates that they should already have a confident grasp of verb tenses such as present simple, present continuous, present perfect, past simple, past continuous and a variety of future tenses. In addition, they should be able to hold clear and coherent social conversations, contributing to discussions by expressing their own feelings and opinions on a wide variety of topics.
Course Content Each course content reflects the respective examination itself and is designed to consolidate student's core English competence as well as English language skills. The courses comprise various elements, such as listening to recordings, scanning and skimming for information, comprehension skills, using correct formats for different writing tasks and speaking for specific situations. Students are advised how best to approach the exams in terms of formats, time allocation, instructions and the evaluator's expectations
Teaching Methodology Teachers use a wide variety of teaching methods and these aim to engage the students as much as possible. Structure practice activities, oral group discussions and discursive essay writing activities are just a few examples of these methods.
Learning Materials In addition to textbooks, the courses use previous examination papers, newspaper articles, internet resources and ideas from a wide range of current foreign language teaching manuals.
Assessment Methods Mock exams are part of the courses and teachers regularly discuss exam scores and progress with the students. Speaking is monitored throughout each course.
